Robert W. Goldsmith

Robert W. Goldsmith, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2010 in Cedar City, Utah. He was born December 24, 1919 in Pawnee City, Nebraska to George W. and Grace McClure Goldsmith and moved to Falls City, Nebraska shortly thereafter where he grew up.

He leaves to appreciate his life, his sister, Margaret (Maggie) Goldsmith Rice of Raleigh, N.C., his good friends, Nancy Graf, Candice Heck, Melanie Paulk and many friends and associates.

Bob attended the University of Nebraska (Lincoln) and UCLA school of design. He also attended and taught at a technical (plastics) school in Los Angeles. At the outbreak of WWII he moved to Philadelphia where he worked as a materials manager at the US Naval Air Station.

He worked at that and two other similar jobs during the war. After the war he held positions in middle management in and around New York City. The two longest and most important ones were with an international management consulting firm and with an organization that develops exams for use in the field of public health. In 1974 he became a computer analyst. His most recent position was as Senior Analyst in the business affairs department at the University of Southern California (LA).

Bob was an artist/designer, writer and European traveler. He had a keen love of the visual arts including painting, and later in life added acting and directing to his varied interests. In 1988 he retired to Cedar City, Utah and quickly developed a love for the area. It was there that he resumed his interest in painting, photography and writing. He also developed a new interest in Yoga with energized his life and gave him valued friendships.

He local involvements included the Shakespeare Festival, Cedar City Community Theater and the Cedar City Community Chorus.

His sister and friends wish to express their appreciation to the staff of Emerald Pointe and to the Southern Utah Homecare and Hospice team which took such excellent and sensitive care of Bob in his final days.

There will be no funeral service. Inurnment will be in Falls City, Nebraska. A memorial remembrance will be a gathering in the form of a potluck, at The Sage Hills Yoga Center, 535 S. Main St., from 4:30 to 7pm on Friday, January 22, 2010.
