Second Visitation: Feb 20, 2010 • 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.
- Location: LDS Midvalley Ward - Enoch
Etta Louise Warren Matheson returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father February 17, 2010, at the age of 78 in her home surrounded by loving family.
Louise was born April 30, 1931 in Parowan, Utah to Eugene Warren and Monta Lister Warren. She was the second of six children and the oldest daughter. She grew up on their farm and in Parowan, during the depression where she learned the values of thrift and hard work that have been a blessing to all who have known her.
Louise married Ivan M. Matheson July 21, 1948 in the St. George LDS Temple. She is the mother of four daughters and one son. Louise was an exemplary wife and mother, teaching her children to cook, sew and grow beautiful gardens, and how to raise beautiful children. She loved all things that had to do with the outdoors, especially the flowers she grew each year in her yard. She was an excellent seamstress and created many beautiful quilts. She crocheted beautiful tablecloths and enjoyed oil panting. Louiseās cooking was out of this world, and something she has willingly shared with all she loved. She worked hard to raise her family while helping Ivan run Matheson Dairy. She loved the milk customers she met each week. Louise supported Ivan in all his political endeavors and church callings. She spent countless hours traveling to and from Salt Lake City to meetings, crocheting all the way. She began working at SUSC bookstore in 1985 and worked there for 20 years through the transition to SUU.
Louise was an example to her family and all who knew her. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. Her Christ-like service and love for the Lord and the gospel of Jesus Christ were evident to all who knew her. Louise served in every Church auxiliary and was a president of each throughout her many years of church service. Her favorite calling was the nursery where she served on the ward and stake level five times. Ivan and Louise served a full-time mission to the Florida Tallahassee Mission in 1989-1990. They also served a St. George Temple Mission and several ward and stake missions. One of the highlights of their missionary service was serving for three years as LDS Family Services Addiction Recovery Program Missionaries.
Louise loved her 32 grandchildren and 87 great-grandchildren. She never tired of their visits and learning about their activities. "Thanks for being our Granny."
Louise is survived by her husband of 61 years Ivan M. Matheson, daughters Carolyn (Brent) Jones, Elma (James) Baird, Angela (David) Wankier, Renee (Gordon) Wankier and their son Ivan James (Patty) Matheson, sisters Dorothy Robinson, Helen Cartwright, Barbara Harris and one brother Frank Lister Warren; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Joseph Donald Warren and grandson, Craig Ivan Matheson.
Funeral services will be held February 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Midvalley Ward Chapel at 70 East Midvalley Road, Enoch, Utah. Viewings will be held at the same building from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 19 and from 9:00-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010. Interment will be held at the Enoch City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Perpetual Education Fund or Humanitarian Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I was so sad to hear about Louise's passing. I had the opportunity to work with her at the SUU bookstore and I have and will always remember her and what a wonderful example of kindness and love she was. My special condolences to Carolyn, Kendalee, and Kalynn. Your mom/grandma was one very special woman.

Dear Ivan and Family:
We are sorry for your loss of Louise. She was such a great woman, example, friend and neighbor. We first met Louise when we were attending CSU, and I was driving school bus. We used to stop in at the dairy for milk on the way home. She was also so kind and friendly. We will miss her. May the Lord bless and strengthen you in this temporary loss. Our love to you.

We wanted to express our sympathy and thoughts at this time to your family. Your mother was such an exemplary person as a wife, mother, grandmother, and individual. We enjoyed getting better acquainted when we lived in Enoch for a time. Our prayers are with you and your good family.

I am very sorry for the loss of such a wonderful woman. I was so young when we were in the same ward, but throughout my life, Louise always greeted me with hugs and kind words. I don't remember a time when I would see her that she wouldn't stop whatever she was doing to talk to me, ask me about my family and to leave me feeling better then I was before I spoke with her. May you feel some peace at this time.

I was so sorry to hear of Louise's passing. What a wonderful lady she was. I loved working with her at the bookstore for all those years. She was always such a hard worker and always had a smile on her face. Nothing ever appeared to get her down. She was always lifting those around her with her kind and gentle spirit. I am sorry that I haven't seen her for such long time. I didn't know she was sick or I would have made a point to visit her and let her know that she had a great impact on my life. It is hard to believe that we have lost 2 of our wonderful Bookstore workers (Elaine Anderson and Lousie) within a few short weeks of each other. Makes us think about how short life is. I will miss Louise. My heart is with her family.
All my love, Kris Orton
