Our loving mother, Arta Lena Jenkins Brough, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the Beaver Valley Long Term Care Center in Beaver, Utah with her family at her bedside.

Arta was born in Nephi, Utah on June 7, 1917 and married her eternal companion Ernest Rulon Brough on October 18, 1940 in the Manti, Utah LDS Temple.

A professional educator, Mother earned B.S and M. Ed. Degrees from Brigham Young University. She taught Business Ed. Courses at Juab High School in Nephi, Utah until 1966. She and Rulon moved their family to Cedar City, UT and Mother taught in the Business Ed. Dept. at what is now Southern Utah University from 1966 to 1979. While at the University she appeared in several faculty theater productions including "Arsenic and Old Lace" and "Harvey." She also served as President of the Women’ Faculty Staff Assoc. After retirement she served as President of the Emereti Assoc. Mother was an accomplished seamstress and cook and made sure no one left her home hungry. She also enjoyed painting with watercolors when time permitted.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Through her life Mother had an opportunity to serve in each auxiliary faithfully and gave 100% in all she did. Mother served with Dad in the Anchorage Alaska Mission from 1980 to 1981, and served in the ST. George LDS Temple as an ordinance worker for over 8 years.

Arta is the Mother of 6 children: Margo Jan Hovik (Doug) - Soulsbyville CA, Giles Bradley (deceased), Angela Brough - Sunnyvale CA, Rulon Larry (Joy) Brough - Enoch UT, Thomas Vance (Elayne) Brough - Las Vegas, NV and Allyson (Randall) Cox - Beaver, UT. She has 17 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way.

To her daughters she was a devoted Mother and the light that never faltered. To her sons she was an unwavering supportive example and truly "The Cat’s Meow!" We will miss your dedication and love of family and church and feel blessed to be your children.

There will be a viewing in Cedar City, UT at the Southern Utah Mortuary on Thursday, January 26, 2012, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in Beaver, UT at the 1st/2nd Ward LDS chapel 15 N. 100 W., Friday, January 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. preceded by a viewing in the same building from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi, Utah on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with a short graveside service under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.

We express our gratitude and appreciation to the staff of the Beaver Valley Long Term Care Center, Dr. Wade Oakden, and the great care given by Hospice for their compassionate service to our Mother.

Dear Margo, Angie, Larry, Tom, Allyson, spouses and families,
I did not hear of your dear Mother's passing until the day after the services. I would have been there had I known. Your Mother was a wonderful person. She and your Dad raised a wonderful and productive family. I have many fond memories growing up across the street from The Brough's in Nephi. I remember the summer we planned to buy cowboy boots for the Ute Stampede by selling Koolaid. I have always admired your Mother for going back to school after she had her family. That must have been very hard to do. Arta was a wonderful teacher. She taught me in the four hour Business block at Juab. I learned more English in her Business English class than in any other English class. I was sad when you moved to Cedar City. Your Mother had a very full life. I'm sure she had a joyous reunion with your Dad, Bradley and her parents. Love to each of you.

I lived across the street from Arta and Rulon in Cedar City by the high school. They were the best neighbors. Arta was ALWAYS helping me with my sewing and quilting. I will always remember her homemade tomato soup and the best pear butter I've ever eaten. I am so very sorry for your loss. She will be missed.
