Dixon M Hunter, age 83, after a six week separation joined his sweetheart of fifty-seven years when he passed away January 24, 2012 at Valley View Medical Cen-ter, Cedar City, Utah, while peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born on August 19, 1928 in Cedar City, Utah to Del Roy and Harriet Mulliner Hunter. He married the love of his life, Joe Ann Orton, in the St. George Temple on December 3, 1954.
Dixon served with the Legendary 213th Artillery Battalion of the Army National Guard in the Korean Conflict. After his service, Dixon started his life’s career working with his brother, Claude, as a beekeeper. This later developed into a profession working for San Bernardino County Department of Agriculture as a Biologist in California. Dixon loved the outdoors and anything to do with nature. He loved to swim, camp, fish, hunt, hike, etc, He loved to travel and he and his wife toured many states on their motorcycle. But above all, Dixon loved Navajo Lake where the family often gathered. Upon retirement they returned home to Southern Utah. Dixon was a gentle-man who was always there for his family. He will be greatly missed.
Dixon and Joe Ann served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Texas Dallas Temple Mission and worked for many years as ordinance workers in the St George Temple and the Los Angeles Temple. Dixon was very active in the LDS Church, serving in many callings in Boy Scouts, Young Mens, Priesthood Leadership Positions, Ward Clerks, Executive Secretary and Counselors in the Bishopric.
Dixon is survived by his children Julie & Rick Neff of Eagle River, Alaska, Jackie and Deric Monroe and Jaymie and Samuel Gull both of Parowan, Utah. He is also survived by 13 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his infant son, Dixon Joseph Hunter, his parents, brother Claude M Hunter and Sisters Thelma Gardner and Carmen Greenwood.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Parowan 3rd Ward Chapel. Friends and family may call on Monday, January 30, from 6:30- 8:30 pm and Tuesday, January 31, from 11:00-12:30 at the Parowan 3rd Ward Relief Society Room. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.

Sorry to hear of Dick's passing. Dick has been a special friend and buddy throughout the years.We shared many memories throughout our school days, and in Korea, and many reunions since. We pray for the Lord's blessings to be with his family and other loved ones at this time of sorrow and rembrance. All our love and best wishes.
