Peter Kent Dotson, 72, beloved son of George Horold and Ether Fontella Dotson, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2010 in St. George, Utah due to complications following a heart attack.

Peter was born 9 December, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah and was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Fawn, two sons, Michael and George, and grandson, Christopher. He is survived by his wife, Vickie Dotson, brothers, George (Onda Vee) and Richard (Maralyn), sisters Joan Solas (Hank) and Elaine Martinez and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He married Rebecca Benner in July, of 1956 and welcomed Pete, Jr., (Laura) and Michael into their home. Pete joined the United States Army in 1957. They were later divorced.

Pete married Patricia Edmonds in March, 1965 and raised Nick, David (Bonnie), and Elizabeth (Karsten) Toomer, Kimberly (Michael) Schrauth, George, Jared (Kathleen), James (Adrian), Jason (Brooke). They were later divorced. They have 24 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Pete made a living doing many things, of which trucking became an important support. In 1990 he moved to Cedar City to be closer to family and to Minersville, where he spent many of his formative years. He was a master of many trades and for the past 20 years has been employed at the El Rey motel in Cedar City, Utah.

Pete and Vickie met while working together at the El Rey and have been a great support to each other, through many trials and much joy. Pete adored all of his children and grandchildren and did many things to expose them to cultural and uplifting events and activities. They will forever appreciate all that he has done for them and taught them.

Vickie’s children are: Eric LeFevre, Andy (Tamara - deceased) LeFevre, Travis (Collette) LeFevre, Ryan (Robyn) LeFevre, Kacie Jesus (Ray), Wendi Alcaraz (David), and Amy Rice (Allen). They have 18 grandchildren.

Pete’s testimony and study of the gospel of Jesus Christ is respected and well-known in the Cedar City Second Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Pete loved to study gospel principles and took many classes from Garry Graf at the Institute of Religion. He was an avid reader and was knowledgeable about many subjects.

He was considered one of the best Dutch oven cooks in southern Utah and many will miss his experienced cooking, fun personality, and work ethic. He loved to serve and always thought of others before he thought of himself. He was loved dearly and will be missed tremendously.

Dr. Kory Woodbury’s extraordinary efforts gave Pete extra time with his adoring family and we thank him and the staff at Dixie Regional for their care and support.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Cedar City 4th Ward located at 500 West 400 North in Cedar City, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Cedar City 4th Ward, and again at the Church on Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 9:00 - 10:30 am. Interment will be in the Minersville Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.

The family requests that donations can be made to Mountain America Credit Union under Peter Kent Dotson’s name.

I worked with Pete at the hotels for almost four years. During that time, I got to know him pretty well. The most memorable thing about Pete was that I always knew he had come into the building because he was always whistling a happy tune, especially after church on Sunday to get a copy of the Sunday Comics. He always had a way with cheering people up and helping every way he could to make everyone else's life better.
When a co-worker told me how old he was I could not believe it! He was always very active and young at heart. I will miss our conversations and the light that he brought with him when he entered a room. You will be greatly missed Pete.

Pete the pain of your passing is overwhelming to our family but I am so thankful for all you taught me about the gospel and I look forward to the day we can see you again.
The love that we felt from you for our family greatly stregthened us and gave us the example we needed to raise a happy family.
Maddy is especially saddened that she will not have grandpa here to take her to flute lessons, concerts, and bring her chocolate. There is no better grandpa than you! We love you and miss you so much.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Pete was a giant with a gentle heart. When I was in college I lived in the apartments between the hotels. Pete took the best care of me. Before I moved in, the apartment had been used by a group of boys. Pete went to great lengthns to make sure he fixed it up so that it would be comfortable for a group of girls. If the power went out or the boiler broke Pete would be at my door making sure I okay. He was a father figure and a friend, who always looked out for me. I hope that you'll find comfort at his passing.

Please know that the love of my family and everyone in California is with all of Uncle Pete's family. When I was little Uncle Pete always reminded me of Paul Bunyan because he was so big and of his beard, when your six and your favorite story was about Paul Bunyan and Big Blue you always look for someone who is just like your favorite storybook character. I know the time will come when he and my mom will see each other along with Grandma and Grandpa Dotson and it will be a beatiful moment. All my love and prayers are with you all.

I've worked with Peters daughter Kim and her family for years, but have never had the oppurtunity to meet him. Kim is a wonderful person and a good friend...I'm sure her father was considered same to the people who were close to him. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family, during what I'm sure are difficult times. God bless, Chris, Karen and Mari

Pete was "one of a kind". I don't think I will ever meet another man like him. I've know him since 1998 when I began working at the Stratford Court Hotel. He knew everyone of my children. I believe children were his greatest joy. He will be greatly missed. Life at work will not be the same without him popping in. I want his entire family to know how much all loved him.

So sorry for the loss of a great man. Uncle Pete was always so caring and friendly to our family. We loved Pete with all our hearts! We love to have Pete cook at our family gatherings and have enjoyed him cooking for our banquets..He will be greatly missed..
He was a man of great knowledge and loved to share what he knew with everyone...
We have enjoyed every minute spent with Pete!

Frank and Mary Davis

We have worked with Pete on many occasions and even had the pleasure of participating in his dutch oven dinners.
Whats amazing to us is to see how many lives Pete has touched and in that his memory will live long.
Its always a sad day to lose such a great person.

Our condolences and prayers to all the family
